Merck Bio - Plant a Tree
We will plant a tree for every Novagen®, Calbiochem® & Novabiochem® catalog requested !
We are supporting Salt of the Earth`s tree planting scheme. The charity is planting trees in southern India, which will not only reduce our carbon footprint, but also help those communities who face the greatest threat from climate change.
A Green Campaign by Merck Chemicals Ltd.
For each Calbiochem®, Novagen® or Novabiochem catalog requested one tree will be planted in India. Merck will make a donation to the British charity "Salt of the Earth." The catalogs are available to customers free of charge.
Salt of the Earth raises funds for its Indian partner Social Change and Development (SCAD) which is active in southern India. The area is drought-prone and people are particularly affected by climate change. This year alone, over 120,000 saplings of various species, for example neem and tamarinds, will be planted there. The trees provide shade, store water and prevent soil erosion. They also absorb carbon dioxide from the air. And last but not least, the villagers will be able to profit from the trees' fruits and medicinal uses, which they can use themselves or sell. Salt of the Earth Indian partner SCAD works with approximately 450 villages. In addition to planting trees, the organization also provides support to local agriculture, supports the building of school and kitchen gardens and rainwater harvesting and storage projects.
Merck Chemicals Ltd have donated enough money to plant close to 1500 trees and are looking forward to continue supporting Salt of the Earth's and SCAD's efforts.
